A plosive is a sound formed by sudden release of air held back by a complete closure of the air stream of speech before.
Acoustically, the result is a sound consisting of a short period of quietness followed by an abrupt, very regular and rather loud sound.
Plosives may be voiced or unvoiced in the european language, some other languages also distinguish apirated and unaspirated plosives.
